Still breezy this morning, but Bassborough survived the yesterday’s monster storm with only a few branches scattered here and there. I heard a loud crash during the night, but nothing big down or broken. Biggest change from yesterday is this morning’s chilly temps and bright blue sky.
My friend Catherine Phelps, a great source for all things Carolina, tells me now to watch out for “widowmakers,” those limbs and branches that were broken or weakened from the storm, but haven’t yet fallen. They are notorious for falling on unsuspecting people.
Perhaps I should incorporate this new twist on the word “widowmaker” in my writing today.
